Dustin Oliver, MHC-LP

HE/HIM

Headshot of Dustin Oliver, MHC-LP

My ideal client is a gay, queer, or bisexual adult man who feels disconnected, guarded, or stuck in difficult relationship and social patterns. My work focuses on friendships, dating and intimacy concerns, identity related stress, recovery from emotionally invalidating or manipulative relationships, and anxiety linked to belonging and self worth.

I offer an affirming, direct, and collaborative therapy space that helps individuals better understand their emotional patterns, strengthen boundaries and communication, and build relationships that feel safer, more stable, and more authentic.

Still unsure? What made you search for a therapist? Why now? What is missing? I want to meet you. If I'm not a fit for you, I'll even help you find someone who may be. In the words of British pop star Ellie Goulding "what are you waiting for?"

A part from counseling, I also host boy meets therapy, a social media platform and podcast that blends clinical research with conversations about mental health; emphasizing Gay and Bisexual (Queer) men and the LGBTQ+ community. .

PROFESSIONAL BIO:

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Georgia State University and completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Kentucky. While working toward my undergraduate education, I conducted clinical research for the University’s Behavioral Science Lab, which studied the relationships between alcohol and domestic violence in LGBTQ+ couples. I studied Positive Psychology abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, where we researched what contributes to a healthy, happy life. After graduating, I completed an internship at an intensive outpatient facility that treated substance use disorders with a trauma-focused approach. The practicum and internship requirements for my Master in Counseling were completed at a boutique private practice in Philadelphia that exposed me to a variety of clients facing different challenges. Some of these included substance use disorder, dissociative identity disorder, traumatic stress disorders, borderline personality disorder, and sexual dysfunction disorders, to name a few.
